FROM ARCHITECTURE TO UX DESIGN
User experience design, from the physical to the digital realm
It all started with a 2nd-grade class trip viewing architecture in New York City. Afterward, I came home and told my mother I wanted to be an architect. Fast forward two decades later to myself working professionally as an Architectural Designer. I’ve always known I had a love for design and creativity, but I’ve learned that my passion and love for architecture have shifted to more of an appreciation of the design and finished product. I love the design concepts, preliminary sketches, digital models, and most importantly, the ability to solve a user problem by combining both function and aesthetics. I struggled briefly to think of another way to leverage my design interests and skills into another field until I learned of User Experience Design.
I found that UX Design combined my design and creative interests while being in the digital world, another interest of mine. Moving from the physical to the digital realm also allows for more creativity and design expression along with an increased opportunity to see more designs come to fruition. As I learned more about it, I noticed similarities between the two industries of Architecture and UX Design. I'm excited that I've been able to find another industry where I feel my interests and skills can flourish while being able to solve user problems and improve digital experiences for people.
